In plain terms

Your statistics are yours. Export or delete them whenever you want.
Measure sites you actually control, and don't use this to collect personal data.
The service is provided as-is, with no uptime guarantee.
Either of us can end the arrangement at any time.

1. The service

JS Stats is a web-analytics service. You add a site, install a small script on it, and we record and display statistics about its traffic. The same software can also be run on your own server; these terms apply to the hosted service only.

2. Your account

You are responsible for keeping your credentials secure and for everything done through your account. Give accurate contact details so we can reach you about your account. Two-factor authentication is available and recommended.

3. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

Install the tracker on a site you do not own or administer.
Use it to collect personal data, or to track individuals rather than measure traffic. The service is built to make that difficult and you must not work around it.
Send fabricated or automated traffic to distort statistics — yours or anyone else's.
Attempt to access another account's data, or to disrupt or overload the service.
Use it for anything unlawful, or on sites distributing malware.

4. Your data

Statistics collected for your sites belong to you. We do not sell them, mine them, or use them to build products. You can export everything or delete your account at any time from Settings; deletion removes your sites and their statistics. How data is handled is described in the privacy policy.

You are the controller of the data you collect through the service. You are responsible for telling your own visitors what you measure, and for complying with the law that applies to you — including consent rules if you switch a site away from the default cookieless mode.

5. Availability

The service is provided as-is and as-available, with no uptime commitment. It may be interrupted for maintenance, or by faults outside our control. We keep backups but you should export anything you cannot afford to lose. Analytics data is, by its nature, a record we reconstruct from traffic — we cannot recover statistics that were never recorded, for example while your site or our service was unreachable.

6. Price changes and paid plans

The service is currently offered free of charge with all features available. If paid plans are introduced, existing accounts will be told in advance and will not be switched to a paid plan without agreeing to it. Where paid plans are active, payments are processed by a third-party provider and are subject to that provider's terms.

7. Ending the arrangement

You may stop using the service and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, or that places the service at risk — for abuse we will act immediately; otherwise we will contact you first where practical. If we discontinue the service entirely, we will give reasonable notice so you can export your data.

8. Liability

To the extent the law allows, the service is provided without warranties, and we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, lost profits, or lost data. Nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.

9. Changes to these terms

Changes are reflected in the "last updated" date above. Continuing to use the service after a change means you accept it. Significant changes will also appear in the changelog.
